Visible Spectroscopic Method for Estimation of Atenolol in Tablets

A simple, accurate, cost effective and reproducible spectrophotometric method has been developed for the estimation of atenolol in tablets. The method was based on the formation of colored chromogen (vanilline). The ?-max of atenolol was found to be 650nm to both crude and marketed sample and is analyzed using the beer-lamberts law. The percentage of recovery of atenolol ranged from (99.5 ± 0.16) in pharmaceutical dosage form. The developed method was validated with respect to linearity, accuracy (recovery), precision and specificity. Beers law was obeyed in the concentration range of 2-10µg/ml having line equation Y=0. 2071C - 0.0043 with a correlation coefficient of 0.9999. The results of the analysis were validated statistically and by recovery study.
