ABSTRACT:
An experimental preparation and characterization of the composite system [CdHgI4:0.2AgI]:0.xCuI, (x = 0.2, 0.4, and 0.6 mol. wt. %), was investigated for superionic behavior. Powdered samples of different compositions containing x mol. wt. % CuI were synthesized by solid state reactions, using [CdHgI4:0.2AgI] mixed system as host. Analysis were carried out by x-ray powder diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) techniques. These studies have revealed the formation of new substance having different phase transition temperature. Electrical conductivity measurements were carried out at frequency of 1 kHz in the temperature range 150° - 250°C by a Gen Rad 1659 RLC Digibridge. Activation energies for the system in eV both for the pre-transition and post-transition phase transformations are reported.
