ABSTRACT:
Background: Jawarish Falafili is a classical Unani polyherbal formulation known for its Hadim (digestive) and Muqawwi-i-Kabid (hepatotonic) properties. Objective: This review aims to explore the integrative role of Jawarish Falafili in managing metabolic and gastrointestinal disorders by evaluating its traditional uses, phytochemical profile, mechanisms of action, and biomedical evidence. Methods: Classical Unani literature was examined alongside biomedical databases (PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect). Relevant studies on Jawarish Falafili and its components were reviewed. Results: The formulation consists of ingredients like Piper nigrum, Zingiber officinale, Cinnamomum cassia, and Valeriana wallichii, which exhibit anti-obesity, hepatoprotective, lipid-lowering, and gastrointestinal regulatory effects. Their synergistic action influences metabolic pathways such as AMPK and PPAR, enhances lipid metabolism, and supports liver and gut function. Conclusion: Jawarish Falafili holds promise as a complementary therapy for conditions like obesity, NAFLD, dyslipidemia, and GI dysfunctions. Further clinical validation and pharmacological standardization are recommended.
