ABSTRACT:
This study reports the synthesis and characterization of novel furan-based thermosetting resins derived from the polycondensation of furfuryl alcohol (FA) with 4-chlorobenzaldehyde (4CB) and 2-butanone (2B). Synthesized via base-catalyzed condensation, these resins were characterized using 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and FTIR spectroscopy. The cross-linking behavior of these resins was evaluated using various chemical agents to assess their potential in industrial applications, specifically metal ion remediation, high-performance laminates, and bio-based polymeric fibers. The findings suggest that these furanic resins offer a sustainable alternative to traditional petroleum-derived thermosets.
