ABSTRACT:
An experimental study was carried out to examine the effect of osmotic stress on L-glutamic acid production by the mutant Micrococcus glutamicus AB100. Initial addition of NaCl resulted in an arrest of the bacterial cell growth and glucose consumption. The cell growth was found to resume within few hours. Maximum cell growth was obtained with 1.0 (M) NaCl. Micrococcus glutamicus AB100 was found to grow even with 2.0(M) -3.0(M) NaCl.
