ABSTRACT:
A simple, rapid and sensitive visible spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of Ramipril in bulk and pharmaceutical formulations. The proposed method involves oxidative coupling of rampril with brucine in presence of sodium meta periodate .In this method purple red colored species is formed and exhibits ? max at 525.6nm. The calibration graph is linear over the concentration range of 4-20µg/ml with Molar absorptivity of 1.2469X104 l/mol/cm and Sandell’s sensitivity of 0.033403 µg/cm2 0.001 abs. unit. The proposed method is applied to commercial available tablets and the results are statistically compared with those obtained by the UV reference method and validated by recovery studies. The results are found satisfactory and reproducible. The method is applied successfully for the estimation of the Ramipril in formulations without the interference of excipients. The method offers the advantages of rapidity, simplicity and sensitivity and low cost and can be easily applied to resource-poor settings without the need for expensive instrumentation and reagents.
