ABSTRACT:
Nano ZnO has shown to be a suitable catalyst in a multicomponent reaction involving an aldehyde, an amine, and thioglycolic acid in N,N-dimethylformamide at moderate temperature (50°C) to form thiazolidinones. This one-pot method involved reasonable reaction time, easy workup and purification procedure to furnish products in excellent yields. In particular, campholenic aldehyde obtained from a-pinene was used to synthesize medicinally useful bioactive thiazolidinones. Products were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 2DNMR and mass spectra.
