ABSTRACT:
A chromogenic spray reagent based on Phosphomolybdic Acid (PMA) is introduced for the selective detection and identification of Monocrotophos, a widely used organophosphate insecticide, through Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). The reagent, easily prepared by simply dissolving PMA in ethanol. The PMA forms a distinct light purple-pink chromogenic adduct with Monocrotophos. The method demonstrates high selectivity in distinguishing Monocrotophos even in the presence of other organophosphorous insecticides and biological interferences, those found in viscera. The assumption is that the color formation is attributed to a redox mechanism involving the reduction of Mo (VI) to Mo(V). This approach is simple, sensitive, and suitable for forensic toxicological analysis of Monochrotophos in biological and forensic samples.
